Spun like cotton candy — The latest on APN — July 16-22

While the midway moves north in Alberta this week, we're continuing our fascination with freaky fair foods; this time our curiosity is piqued by the dill pickle cotton candy rumoured to be at K-Days. The Turf District was already getting into the spirit with a carnival-themed tailgate menu.

If you're in Edmonton this weekend, you might catch APN's program director Fawnda Mithrush running around on the midway grounds doing things like emceeing the New Foods competition, or judging the Talent Search. Come say hi! And, if you're holing up to avoid the crowds during the papal visit, it's a perfect time to queue up this week's playlist to escape those blessed traffic jams.

The “subscribe” button on the Listen Notes playlist below will let you grab APN’s most recent episodes for your podcatcher.

Your deep-fried playlist has arrived — The Latest on APN — July 9-15

Many assume that the essential foods of summer are of the frozen variety; iced coffee and popsicles are cool treats on a hot day, for sure. But as we enter Stampede season, the defining foods of the season seem to be of the deep-fried, ultra-glazed, dipped-in-cheese (or chocolate) variety. Midway foods — and their infinite weirdness — are what we look forward to when we're thinking of braving the rodeo crowds, so we're tossing dietary health out the window and embracing the call of mac and cheese soft serve.

You can too! Just plug in this week's playlist, grab a handful of Rolaids, and get yourself some double-fried, bacon-glazed doughnuts. Maybe grab a paper bag before you get on the Ferris wheel, just in case.

The grass grows quickly — The latest on APN — July 1-8

Now that the frenzy over fireworks is through, we're settling into our summer routine. This year, that seems to mean an extra amount of lawn-mowing and weed-clearing, thanks to all the rain. Ah well, we'll salve our mosquito bites and head out to the patios this weekend — because that's a summer staple, too.

Some of our member shows are taking breaks for the season, so our playlists might be shorter than usual in July and August. Never fear, we'll still bring the weekly roundup to your inbox. Pop in those earbuds while you toil in the yard and enjoy the sun, however briefly it may appear.

The “subscribe” button on the Listen Notes playlist below will let you grab APN’s most recent episodes for your podcatcher.
