Listen harder, spend smarter - The Latest on APN - Nov. 19-25

Right on cue, as our neighbours to the south celebrate their Thanksgiving weekend, the usual inundation of Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and other super-sale-themed emails has already started to clog up our inbox.

With current prices at grocery stores and gas pumps, we're probably not going to tempt ourselves this year, and stick to the far less expensive entertainment empire of podcasts. We may even feel good enough about ourselves by Giving Tuesday to make a charitable donation or bump up our Patreon subscriptions. Whatever situation your wallet is in these days, the team at APN has your back with this week's brand new episodes, absolutely free, and full of goodness.

The “subscribe” button on the Listen Notes playlist below will let you grab APN’s most recent episodes for your podcatcher.

Time to rest and tackle the must-listen list — The Latest on APN — Nov. 12-18

Well, it's finally caught up to us: The APN office has been hit with a veritable plague. We even put up biohazard tape to keep our roommates safe. Sore throat, throbbing headache, congested sinuses — even if we could smell the tasty chicken soup we cooked up to comfort our achy bones, we wouldn't really be able to taste it. Ugh.

One benefit to taking a few days off to nurse a cold (or COVID) is that it clears the schedule for a proper catch-up on the playlists and book stacks we've been putting off. And APN's weekly batch of new episodes is here, too, just in time.

The “subscribe” button on the Listen Notes playlist below will let you grab APN’s most recent episodes for your podcatcher.

Remember where you started - The Latest on APN - Nov. 5-11

Remembrance is a complex thing: It can be collectively unifying and profoundly personal. Steeped in grief or elated by nostalgia. Some can remember every detail about their lives, while for others, memories become distorted by time.

Whatever your relationship to this oh-so-human act of thinking back, the theme got us reflecting on how podcasting has changed in its relatively short existence. Just seven years after Serial pushed the form to the forefront, Adnan Syed has gone free, the pandemic production bubble has swelled and fizzled, and listening trends continue to ride wave after COVID wave.

Dizzy with all this evolution, it's comforting to recall our early days of blanket fort sound booths and DIY editing. Of relentless enthusiasm for stories and long conversations. Listening trips down memory lane abound. As ever, APN's crew has your weekend playlist at the ready, too. Settle in, reflect, and enjoy.

The “subscribe” button on the Listen Notes playlist below will let you grab APN’s most recent episodes for your podcatcher.

  • In a Cupisode of Mess Hall Podcast Lena and Avery try stuff in cups: curry noodles, Bombay noodles, jalapeño KD, pancakes, and chocolate cake.
