Alberta stories

You’ll find a rollicking discussion of Alberta politics on Daveberta, with special guests Lianne Bell and Chris Henderson joining Dave Cournoyer. Then, we apologize in advance for the hunger pangs these might cause, but it’s worth it to hear about the barbecue sauce and dips from Jordan's General Store on the Mess Hall Podcast, and Moose Shed BBQ on Eat More Barbecue.

Edmonton stories

Let’s get even more local. OtherWise offers Part 2 of Moréniké Ọláòșebìkan’s conversation with a variety of people of colour about finding a sense of belonging in Edmonton. Press Start to Join interviewed some Alberta game developers at Dark Matters at the Telus World of Science. Ed’s Shane Lawrence has a great discussion with a University of Alberta prof who studies evil and how to teach students about it. Politics-wise, City of Champions continues its city council spotlights with Coun. Andrew Knack, and watch for a new episode of Speaking Municipally, which we’ll add to the list when it comes in.

Arts and entertainment

Bollywood is for Lovers has a delightful conversation with fellow podcaster Manish Mathur about a couple of Yash Chopra films. Overdue Finds reviews The Public, a star-studded movie about a library and its relationship with people who are homeless. Putting It Together dissects a couple more songs from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The Read-Along begins a new book, A Memory Called Empire. And Makeshift Stories offers a story called The Chimera, about a man whose heart is in the wrong place.

Sports

For Kicks shares the joy of a Canadian victory as the team prepares for the Women’s World Cup, and Loyal Company of the River Valley wonders where FC Edmonton’s scoring power has gone. The 2 and Out CFL Podcast breathes a sigh of relief that there will be no players’ strike. Hockey Feels revels in Great Britain’s singular win in the IIHF tourney, worries about women’s hockey, and despairs at Boston’s presence in the Stanley Cup final.

Self-improvement

On Creative Block, Kyle Marshall has a great talk with Chris Taniguchi, the artist, animator and YouTuber who designed the cover art for all of Kyle’s APN shows. And on Girl Tries Life, Victoria Smith coaches you through the step you have to take if you’re going to commit yourself to self-care.
