After much thought and a few tears, we have decided to wind down the network. We didn’t want to podfade, so to speak, so this end is deliberate and planned with care. We leave with our bills paid and our heads held high, if a little rueful that we couldn’t keep it going longer.
Over the course of APN’s life, we distributed more than $125,000 to members in exchange for delivering ads. We also gave Alberta-focused advertisers a way to reach local audiences in a powerful way and at an affordable rate. We accomplished quite a bit for quite a few people for quite a while. But we’ve reached the end.
Many thanks to ATB Financial for its founding sponsorship, without which APN would never have got off the ground. Thanks, too, to our longest-serving sponsors – the Edmonton Community Foundation and Park Power – and everyone else who parked a bit of their marketing spend with us so we could use it to support local creators.
I also want to thank Katrina Ingram, who rekindled this idea when I had all but given up on it and helped secure that crucial funding to start. I am forever indebted to Fawnda Mithrush, who took the helm when I stepped away to focus on Taproot, and to Breanne Byrne for looking after the nuts and bolts of this crazy machine we made. They are treasures. (Here is Fawnda’s beautiful farewell.)
Thank you, listeners, for opening your ears and hearts to local voices. We hope you’ll keep listening, and if you can spare a bit of cash, support the podcasts that have Patreons. If you’re looking to buy ads, I’m happy to make introductions, and if you run a network, I’d love to make recommendations.
My deepest gratitude is for the podcasters. Thank you for sharing your creations with the world and with us. Five stars, forever and always.
