Summer skywatching - The latest on APN - Aug. 6-12

As the Perseid meteor showers make their way across the night sky this week, it got us thinking about how well-made plans can be kiboshed by clouds. No matter your strategy to get to that Dark Sky Preserve or remote cabin, Mother Nature can flip her switch on the weather and poof — that hundred bucks you spent on gas is gone without the anticipated astral show.

What's reliable, however, is that Alberta's summer skies reliably offer entertainment, stormy or otherwise. Beyond the sunsets, cumulus towers, aurora, and dappled rainbows, there's also the tings of open air concerts, far-off fireworks, and howling coyotes to remind you that, hey, there's a whole world down here for you. Pull your head out of the cosmos, and get acquainted with this week's APN playlist. We're here for you, too.
